What this successful statement is saying is to choose the right people to hang out with because you may lose a lot. For example if you choose to hang out with the wrong people you may lose your respect to yourself, you may also lose your goals, achievements. Its important to  hang out with people that wont harm your future and will lead you to bad steps. Respect to be respect and choose the right.
